 "method": "Basket v2 (from 31 August 2026) prices the whole fire, not just the meat: three kilos of meat (1 kg boerewors, 1 kg bone-in pork loin chops, 1 kg chicken braai pack), the fire itself (4 kg charcoal briquettes, firelighters, matches), the table (6 rolls, potato salad, sweetcorn, chakalaka), the extras (braai salt, tomato sauce, foil) and a 2-litre cooldrink. Two numbers are published: the family braai, and the same basket with a 6-pack of lager. Every line is a single confirmed public guest price with its citation — never an estimate, never an average, never a hole filled from last week. From v2, prices are confirmed on Checkers Sixty60's online shelf as shown to a guest with no store selected (prices at the citation links can differ once a store is chosen); basket v1 was priced at the Vryheid shops, so v1's meat week (R254.98) and v2's meat subtotal (R294.97) are different surfaces, not a price movement. Promotional prices count — if the shelf says R59.49 this week, the braai costs R59.49 this week, and the regular price is noted. A gap stays a gap until someone sends a price we can publish. From 31 August the index also publishes a budget and a high-end braai: the same fire, table and cooldrink, with only the meat block swapped — budget (boerewors, pork braai chops, chicken drumsticks & wings) and high-end (boerewors, rump steak, lamb loin chops).
