This potjie is very simple to make and does not take long at all.
You will need:
Half a cup of olive oil
500 grams beef goulash
3 Medium-sized onions, sliced
2 cups macaroni
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
15 cherry tomatoes
Balsamic vinegar
1 Litre Beef stock (I use 2 Knorr oxtail cubes)
1 Teaspoon dried sweet basil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Half a cup of grated Parmesan cheese
Method:
Heat the oil in the potjie and add the onions. Fry till transparent and remove from the potjie.
Brown the meat in the oil and return the onions to the potjie. Add the spices, seasoning, garlic and tomatoes and give it a good stir.
Close the potjie and allow to simmer for ten minutes.
After 10 minutes add the beef stock, cover and allow to simmer until the meat is soft. By this time the tomatoes will have cooked away into the meat.
Add the macaroni and give it another good stir.
Cook until the macaroni is soft and has absorbed most of the liquid.
When serving, sprinkle a good helping of Parmesan cheese over the dish.
Delicious with a good red wine!

What is a braai blog without a potjiekos recipe? Here’s another great recipe I found on www.capejourney.co.za.

chicken-potjiekos“There is absolutely nothing more beautiful and enjoyable than a sunny winter’s day in Cape Town. We only have a few of these days during the wet rainy cape town winters and it’s of utmost importance to use the opportunity to enjoy the day to the fullest. I’ve decided that today I’m going to prepare creamy bacon chicken potjiekos for my family as I know they absolutely love it and why not share the experience with you.

The most important thing to remember when you prepare potjiekos is to take your time tell all to have a decent breakfast so they won’t rush you, it always comes out a perfect dish if you prepare it on a low heat wood fire, to accomplish the perfect potjie you only need 5 –7 medium sized pieces of wood. Because of the time the potjie takes to prepare it is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the day in the company of your friends and family also it allows you to enjoy a few glasses of wine or beers.
